Have you heard of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library?
The Imagination Library is a book gifting program that sends free, high quality books to children from birth to age 5, regardless of their socio-economic status.
In Australia, the project is powered by United Way Australia, a Not For Profit working to ensure that every child in Australia has the opportunity to thrive.
“It’s lovely, absolutely lovely,” Gilgandra librarian Liz McCutcheon says of the impacts unfolding in front of her as the project rolls out in her area.

“It’s lovely, absolutely lovely,” Gilgandra librarian Liz McCutcheon said of the reading revolution unfolding in front of her.
“Seeing children so engaged with it, that lovely natural warmth of reading to a child and having a cuddle while you read. In three to four years’ time, I’m hoping there won’t be any child turning up at school in Gilgandra who hasn’t ever known how to open a book.”
