Please join us in sending out a big welcome to The Pink Cockatoo Street Library in Griffith, ACT. We’ve been busting to see an example of The Big Pete model out in the wild, and here he is, beautifully pink and gorgeously customised, appropriately nestled among the branches of a tree.

“I have a reading addiction, and it’s my hope to get everyone hooked,” explains Street Librarian, Sophie.

“I’ve been an avid Street Library browser for many years now and thought this was the year to start my own.”

A round of applause, please, for the Books on Belvedere Street Library in Bellmere, QLD. Street Librarian, Lucie, has run with the Street Library concept and installed a second Street Library. Yes. One address, two Street Libraries.

Having registered her first Street Library in September 2022, Lucie asks “Did y’all stop at 1 only?”

This tiny Street Library is specifically for children’s books and Lucie has been referring to her two libraries as ‘Big Library’ and ‘Little Library’, and they host books for grown ups and children respectively. Makes sense!

For those of you with the space for more than one Street Library, we encourage you to register your individual libraries. When it comes to books and Street Libraries it really is a matter of the more the merrier.

Dream School Holiday Project: Street Librarian Emm

Dream School Holiday Project: Street Librarian Emmy (6 yrs) enjoyed seeing Street Libraries around her neighbourhood in Northgate, QLD so much that she decided it would be a wonderful idea to host a Street Library herself, and provide a place where people can borrow and share books.

Emmy's family helped with the construction of the library and now Emmy’s Little Public Library is open and offering a variety of reading material to the community.

Say Hello to the Bijou Bibliotheque in Invermay, TAS. This quirky little library has a herb garden roof, a fairy door, a drawer of goodies, lights, colourful decorations and of course, BOOKS!

Street Librarian Bianca says you should visit this library “if you need a sprig of thyme for your dinner, a dose of colour for your eyeballs, a lemon, or a cute kid’s book.”

We’d like to give a big, grateful, shout out to The Hamlin St Library in Quakers Hill, NSW. Managed by two bossy pomeranians and their humans (one of whom is an ex-library technician), this Street Library not only offers a great selection of books, it encourages community interactions and promotes language and literacy via its community noticeboard and ‘grab some vocab’ cards, which are designed to encourage learning among the community.

“This library has allowed community members to make new friendships,” says one community member. “It is a very special place and it deserves recognition!”

New product alert! We’re chuffed to announce there’s an extremely handsome and practical new Street Library on the block. Meet our new model, ‘The Big Pete’.

Isn’t he lovely?

The Big Pete is lovingly named after one of our favourite Petes, a fella who is hugely instrumental in the construction of all of our Street Libraries. It measures approximately 71cm internally at its highest point and has an internal shelf with a luxurious internal depth of 22cms. The bottom half is perfect for accommodating small-medium sized paperbacks while the top shelf can house books that are larger in size. A perfectly pitched roof tops off The Big Pete, for those who like a library with a more traditional look and story book feel.

Like all of our models, The Big Pete features high quality nickel plated steel fixings, marine quality plywood for a longer life, and an easy to paint door with removable 3mm tough perspex. Your purchase includes a free Street Library outdoor sign, individually worth $25.
