Inner West Council now has a Music Library, which was launched yesterday by Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne.

The launch featured a guitar lesson from John Wardle from the Live Music Office.

Located at Ashfield Library, the collection comprises a range of string instruments including a banjo, mandolin, da ruan, ukulele. Left-handed guitars are also available.

In the same way as libraries lend out books, DVDs, CDs and other materials, patrons can now borrow musical instruments for up to three weeks.

“We’ve established this new music library because we believe that access to music and culture should be a democratic right for kids, young people and the young at heart,” said Mayor Byrne.

“Please come in with your friends or family and borrow an instrument from our new music library,” he said.

Instruments are free and accessible for anyone with a local library card.

A digital Music Library Demo Series to inspire the community to connect with making music is also now available.

The Demo Series features Danielle Lamb on acoustic guitar and Evagelos Vidiniotis on bouzouki.

For more information and to borrow an instrument go to bit.ly/IWCMusicLibrary. Pick up is at Ashfield Library only.
