A’Beckett’s Creek Community Street Library

Junction Street, Granville NSW, Australia

Located under the M4 Motorway, residents who live, walk, ride or play along the motorway corridor can grab or share a book or two!

Originally located a short distance up the road, this library has been relocated to Warawara Reserve. Provided by the City of Parramatta to foster a sense of community among residents who live near the M4 motorway, it is hoped that those who reside in the suburbs surrounding the motorway, and visitors to the area, enjoy using this library.

The M4 Western Motorway is a huge concrete structure that tears through our urban landscape and pollutes the air that we breathe. We often forget that there are people, families, and communities that live here (and birds and wildlife and insects). This is our home.

In an urban area severely lacking in open green space (but abundant in pollution, contamination, and waste), we are making the most with what we’ve got. We hope the street library will enliven the space that sits in the shadow of the motorway.
