A long time ago I learnt that street libraries were a thing. I wanted one. Luckily, I had an empty spot at the front of my house, perfect! All I had to do was persuade my spouse to make a suitable ‘house’ for a few unwanted books. Job done!! Word got out and soon the little library was overflowing. I decided to use this little ‘house’ exclusively for children’s books. I was gifted a three-drawer metal filing cabinet to house [do you see what I did there?!] books for grown-ups. Then it rained. And rained!! Sadly, the filing cabinet wasn’t waterproof and most of the books were badly damaged. Back to the drawing board. Hubby fitted overhangs to the top of the cabinet and drawers. Another job done well. I check the contents regularly to see that the books are still in a readable condition. So far [fingers crossed] the books have remained dry.
This street library caters for all ages with a tiny 'house' for children's books and a separate cabinet for books for grown-ups.
