As the Teacher-Librarian in our school, I am always looking for new ways to encourage our children to read. I saw a Street Library in the school playground of a fellow TL’s school, and fell in love with the idea of a Street Library within our school grounds. I presented the concept to our P & F who have backed the project 100%, providing support of this project through funding the building of our Street Library and purchasing chairs, a mat and a rug to provide a comfortable place for students to engage with the books during lunch breaks, as well as before and after school.
We launched our Street Library at our annual Book Week Parade on Monday 20 August 2018. Bethany’s Little Library has been extremely popular with our students and our shelves have had to be replenished daily.
