The idea for this little library came about in early 2018 when two Florey [Sharon & Rachael] neighbours got together and set up Florey Neighbourhood Watch. This took off in leaps and bounds.
Then in June 2018 Rachael was diagnosed with brain cancer which sadly meant she had to pull back from NHW and focus on her health. The idea for a street library was still there though and had become even more important.
Sharon found this retro fridge on Gumtree and came up with the brilliant idea of painting it to look like a bee. She and her husband Murray spent a hot day painting it, while Rachael’s husband John created a space in their front garden.
We have a good mix of: children’s books, teen books, reference, biographies, chick lit, thrillers, cookbooks and much more.
We hope that this will become a hub for the Florey community, and hope to expand it with a seed library and community pantry in the future.
