Street Library Australia generously gifted this library to author Katherine Wilson, who installed it facing eastward on a special tree stump at the junction of Mt Riddell Rd and Airlie Rd Healesville. The site was chosen for its accessibility and also its historical significance as the 1866 boundary of Coranderrk . A little monument metres away from the Street Library describes the significance of Coranderrk, a place where revered traditional custodians including William Barak, Annie Borat, Simon Wonga and Robert Wandin lived and famously resisted colonising oppression. We’re privileged to house the library on their Country and on this vestige of a large Eucalypt — probably a Messmate or Silvertop Ash — that these custodians may have known. We want to continue their tradition of generosity and resilience. Help yourself to books, replenish if you can. We’ll keep stocking it with big names and current titles, updating frequently. While you’re there, help yourself to our excess produce or leave some of your own x
