I have wanted to erect a street library since I retired several years ago and eventually a dear friend found a bed side cupboard in an op shop. He’s handy with the tools and he made a roof and a water proof floor. He provided hinges, a pole and cement and he dedicated his time to start the project. I am forever grateful to him. I belong to a bookclub. As former high school teachers, we all still relish sharing books, ideas, opinions, reading and learning. A street library is one way of spreading the joy.
My favourite colour is pink but, without an artistic bone in my body, I managed to paint some tulips on my street library box. It's worth seeing them for a laugh. The books are varied and include some for the children. The garden is indigenous to the local area and, if you have a dog, you may find a water bowl underneath and other pups up for a chat.
