Footscray Mechanics’ Institute “Little Library”

As an adjunct to the FMI Library, we have incorporated a street library / little library, situated in front of library building @ 209 Nicholson Street, Footscray. The FMI library was founded in 1856, and have been operating in current location since 1913.

For many decades a cornerstone of the Footscray community, the Footscray Mechanics’ Institute Inc. continues to offer a private library service, as well as Billiards Room facility for its members. Open 5 days a week Mon-Fri 10am-4pm. Subscription is $10 per annum to join the main library. The street library of course is free, and a chance for the community to exchange books, and as an outlet for distribution of book withdrawn from the FMI collection.
