Hop on down to the street library outside High Street Café, Kensington! The little blue library is decorated with scenes of cute Aussie animals sharing the joys of reading, kindly painted by Kensington artist and children’s book author Doriano Lopresto.
We love the location of this ‘third branch’ of the Kensington Residents’ Association’s Street Library network, close to High Street Café, the treasured Kensington-Norwood public pool, and the Mary MacKillop College, Museum and convent where Saint Mary lived and worked. There are lots of residences nearby and the small park where the library is installed is a regular thoroughfare for pedestrians. High book turnover!
The library is set low to put the books within easy reach of children or people in wheelchairs. Paved walkways allow easy access for mobility aids, prams and bikes, as well as pedestrians.
Plan your library visit to include a sniffy walk in the park for your dog, a drink or meal break at the High Street Cafe, or a cooling summer swim at the pool.
Many thanks to the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters for awarding community funding to purchase the library and for supporting the library’s installation in 2024.
