Initially we thought we maybe able to pick up a cabinet in a curb side pickup or on FB Marketplace but quickly started to understand most of these options were unsuitable due to waterproofing issues. So then one of the ladies (Trish) had a connection at a local Menshed. I paid for the box to be made and then Sue who is an artist decorated the box. In between all of this I got written permission from Central Coast Council to erect it in our street park. On Sunday 12 November we all met up at the park for nibbles and drinkies and Trisha’s husband and the other 2 husbands helped concrete it in. Truely a community effort. The 3 of us will keep an eye on the box and replenish as required. We are also hopeful that the street also get to understand that it is great to take a book but for it to work they need to add books as well (we have a little encouraging note on the side of the box to explain how it works).

Three ladies (including myself) belong to a book club called ‘The Reading Divas’ and al have a lot of books gathering dust in our homes. We thought a little street library would be a great way to give our books a second life as well as adding to our community.
