Situated inside Karana Downs Community Garden is our Karana Downs Happy Gardeners Street Library. We have nonfiction books and magazines about gardening, permaculture, nature, wildlife and birdlife; we have plant cuttings, a seed library, and potted plants all available for loan or swap. Come and look at the community garden, place your compost into the compost hub and check out some of the items in our library. We are also actively seeking new members to join our Community Garden.
We officially opened our Community Garden in March 2021. We have a large Facebook following and a small group of workers who are the driving force behind the garden. Our aim to better inform locals of gardening strategies, how to use wicking beds, improve knowledge of propagating, share our successes and failures and to bring likeminded people together, our street library containing nonfiction books, plants, and seeds enables the local community members to swap or borrow any of the library items they require. We also encourage the public to join our merry little group for exercise and socialization. Unfortunately due to continual theft, visitors need to visit our Street Library during our volunteer hours.
