The children and educators at Kids by the Bay Childcare Centre have deep respect for the importance of reading as a foundation for all learning throughout life. We wanted to promote this appreciation beyond the centre, so together with the children we designed and constructed our own street library. We got donations of building materials from our families and lots of eager children to help with the hammering of nails and painting.
It’s been well recieved and it’s beautiful seeing children enthusiastically running up at drop off to see what new books may be there for them to swap.
Our library is located at the entrance of Kids by the Bay, which is at the rear of the church carpark on Cecil street.
Our Street Library is a way of sharing the children and educators love and appreciation of reading with the community beyond the centre.
