Our Street Library has been created by our past student, now artist. Through research of the area of Five Dock, it was learnt that they are 1 of the 29 Eora Nation Tribes. The area represents the Wangal People. This area has an important connection to the sea, particularly through the waterways and how our people used to spend time on boats in the water, surrounded by eels, fish and other sea life. This design focuses on this connection to the waterways of Burramattagal (also now known as Parramatta River) and the history of the land and sea. The patterns of waves in the centre of the design have an indigenous elder on a boat, surrounded by the sea life and totems of Aboriginal Culture. The leaves around the artwork symbolise the connection to land through leaves falling off trees. This reflects the path of the children at KindiKids and how they are forming their own paths, branching out slowly on their own from the trees who represent the KindiKids teachers. The sides of the artwork have spiral symbols connecting which is the indigenous symbol of waterholes. This is surrounded by baby hands and feet to show the importance of creating your own path as they continue to learn every day.
