Lady Game Community Kindergarten is a Community Based Preschool in Lindfield West. In 2020, when Covid-19 was at its peak, most of our families stayed at home and we stayed connected with them through a digital program however, we also wanted to also provide resources that they could easily access when it was safe to do so. One of our teachers suggested a street library! We contacted the local Men’s Shed who built a library for us. We then asked a former parent who is an artist to paint it for us. She did a spectacular job of painting it to look like a book. On one side of the library is the spine of the book that reads “LGCK Community Library Est, 2020” and on the other side are the pages of the book. She painted native plants and insects on the front of the library (except for the of the European Honeybee). The names of the plants and insects have been identified on the inside of the door. A bookmark was added across the top that reads “You can borrow a book, but you get to keep the ideas”. We have all taken ownership of our street library with families also letting us know if it needs tending too. We love our street library! it is great to see children and their family member visiting it each week when they are coming or leaving the Kindy.
