Macleay Island Community Library -Leatherback Street Library

26 Russell Terrace, Macleay Island Qld 4184

Like the endangered Leatherback Turtle, our Library is a treasured rarity because it nests next to the Community Library above the tide.

The Island readers are a generous bunch and have always left unwanted books for The Macleay Island Community Library on the Progress Hall deck. The Renegades Men’s Shed built the Leatherback Library by the street entrance, thus clearing the deck – so readers can take a book, share a book or keep a book, 24 hours a day. Some people think Libraries are almost extinct but these two libraries are thriving and so is our community’s joy and knowledge. Borrowers keep the books tidy and books are sometimes shared with the four other Street Libraries on Macleay Island.
