Marra Street Library

20 McCallum Street, Roselands, NSW, 2196, Australia

Join us on a literary adventure. Sharing our love of reading along with the learning and imaginary exploration that stories and books of different kinds can bring! Our library was painted by an Aboriginal artist, Beverly. She came and sat with the children and we shared our story of our service with her befitting of Mama Bear's philosophy and love for books, reading, exploring & art.

The ‘Marra Street Library’ depicts the last remaining remnants of the Aboriginal Tribe Bidigal, along the Cooks River. The children acknowledge the many rock cave artifacts along the river by placing their hands on the library to depict the ancient hand rock cave art near Mama Bear and named the library ‘Marra’ meaning hands.

Our library was established in order to connect with our wider community through literature. We love to learn and explore new ideas through reading and would love to be able to learn new things from anyone who wishes to share with us. We invite people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to engage in our street library.
