Mawarra Independent School might be small but it pulses to the mighty heartbeats of the teachers and parents who are passionate about their kids and reading.
It’s well known that fostering healthy reading habits is a keystone activity in a child’s development. We’ll embrace as many opportunities as we can to encourage reading in our school, in our family’s homes and in our wider community too.
The school is grateful to receive this donated ‘Big Pete’ library to encourage reading, while further building communities.
Mawarra Independent’s street library sits proudly at the front entrance to the school and everyone in the local community – not just the students – is invited to visit and search the shelves for something new to read.
The school runs an intentionally small, child-centred program and is barely three years old, having endured a difficult start, opening their doors right when pandemic lockdowns swept the country. It has only been through the relentless commitment of community that the school has managed to continue. The school is proud to be further strengthening community ties in the area.
“We’ve had some wonderful support from local businesses to help us grow this school to date and we’re proud that this is one way we can help to pay it forward.”
