Our street library is located at our Mitji Preschool, within a small residential street in Port Macquarie. Mitji means smaller or baby in our local Birpai language. Our library was possible after being successful with a council micro-grant. Via this grant, we aimed to increase community connections, reduce, reuse, and recycle, and encourage the children of our community to embrace the joy of reading.
The children painted and decorated the library and chose the first books to display in the library. There has already been so much excitement over which books to read and which books to bring in from home. The recycling of books is creating learning opportunities for the children about sustainability and bringing the community together.
Our street library is child-focused with a large array of children's books, circulated regularly. We welcome everyone to come and share and select a book.
