We started putting books out on our nature strip in February 2022 for kids to take home and read, and later found that we needed a more weather-proof system, and one that everyone could feel safe at. We placed a large shelving unit on our front porch, and promoted it with little signs, as well as through our local community Facebook group.
We have had many families donate their spare/unwanted books to our library, which has helped a lot to keep up the variety for the local kids. We love hearing the kids’ enjoyment when choosing a book or five! We want to encourage all the kids in our neighbourhood to read for at least twenty minutes each day. Your family can read to you, or you can read to yourself, to your family, or even to your pets or plants!
We offer free bookmarks and reading reward stickers to everyone.
