Paint Wanaaring REaD

81 Vicary Street , Wanaaring NSW 2840, Australia

Wanaaring is located in the Bourke LGA, approximately 178 km from nearest town of Bourke. Our Street Library is only very new and will be moving around the village so that the community gets to know all about what is on offer. You might find me as a result at the Contact Wanaaring Community Hub facility when Contact and the Royal Flying Doctor Service SE are hosting a whole of community child and family fun day; or perhaps I might be at the Royal Flying Doctors Service SE Clinic days; or at the Wanaaring Public School; or maybe at the Wanaaring Rodeo and Gymkhana; or potentially attending meetings at the community hall. The word is now out encouraging people to join in with me and start going through their book shelves for preloved books to be be shared. If you live in or are visiting Wanaaring, you will know I am' open for business and in residence', when you see my special Paint Wanaaring REaD banner proudly on display out the front of where ever I may be on that particular day.
PS There are lots of wild goats in the Wanaaring region and that's why a goat who has caught the reading bug is featured on my banner.

Contact was established in 1979 with the role of helping to address the impacts of isolation for children, families, and communities.

The Wanaaring village consists of limited facilities but includes a small Public School, a shop and caravan park, RFDS SE and Local Health clinics, and a community hall.

Community consultation has revealed a desire to transform the Contact building into a multi-purpose community hub that will facilitate the development of early literacy opportunities from birth. Contact and Paint the Town REaD joined forces in 2021 to Paint the Outback REaD, targeting areas within far west NSW and south west Queensland.

Enter the Wanaaring Street Library – a key part of Contact’s early literacies strategy and an important part of Wanaaring’s Community Hub endeavours.
