Raleigh street community library

Raleigh street Thornbury

Our street community library box was a project by The 2018 Kindergarten children, from Raleigh st children's community centre. It was also working together with our community.

This project came about from Sonia who was one of the kindergarten educators from Raleigh street children’s community centre, who saw a street library box at a park. Sonia took back to the centre photos and a story about how a street library box works.
From this discussion with the kinder children we had an idea of making our own, but we wanted it to be a community project. we ask how we can use the community is part of this. Oscar (One of the kinder children) mentioned his mum (Elliet) is an architect she can draw the plans.
We sent a letter to the Preston Bunnings, who replied they are happy to participate and kindly donated all materials that were needed. Richard from The Alphington Men shed built the little library and our local school students from St Mary’s Primary school did the amazing artwork.
We are opening our little library to our community to enjoy a range of books for children and adult.
A HUGE THANK YOU goes to all people involved
