A few years ago I saw the street library in Horseshoe Bend when I was walking my dog. I immediately thought “I want one too!”. But lacking the skills to build one the idea was shelved.
Then my husband died unexpectedly and I was in need of something to focus my attention on. And so I revived the idea. Initially I had the same problem of not being handy, but when talking to my neighbour about it I got the idea to buy a plastic garden shed. These things are meant to be outside, so they are pretty weather resistant. And it comes with a shelf.
I painted the letters on it, so that everyone knows it’s a street library. Inside I stuck a note with information for those who don’t know what a street library is. And then I went to an op shop to buy a pile of books to get the project started.
I hope that it will get a lot of use. Reading is great. And getting books from a street library is nice and good for the community.
