On a holiday to New Zealand, we discover a beautiful street library on a walk around the lake. We didn’t take a book but we left our finished books, with hand written messages inside, for other readers before we flew back to Australia. It inspired me to create one in the middle of town, here in Wauchope. It is a lovely old restored vegetable cabinet that has a safe home at Coffee on High in the main street of Wauchope. People can access a selection of books, 7 days a week during their business hours. We had a small launch on Saturday 13 January 2024 to celebrate. Everyone had cuppa and a retired librarian named Vera, was there and she even stepped up to say how impressed she was that a little library was there for anyone to browze. So many beautiful books have been donated, so that books can be rotated to keep it really interesting. Several people at the launch said that they would love to help be librarian to help keep it clean and in order. . .A great day. . . .
