The Anand Journey

46 Fourth Street, Parkdale, VIC, Australia 3195

"The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page." - Rachel Anders

The word 'Anand' means 'joy, happiness or bliss' in Sanskrit. This library, its community and books in general take you on a journey, whether you seek to be taken on a historical journey, or one through dreams, a romance story, or just want to learn more about the earth and our world. Take a journey of anand and enjoy some of the books that the Parkdale community has to offer.

This street library sits on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I’d like to acknowledge and pay my respects to their ancestors and elders – past, present, and emerging.

Putting together this library was a community effort! My dad, Shane help build the library, as well as my neighbour who built the door. My talented friend Jared painted the incredible mural of my favourite things on the walls: the mountains, trees, water, and blue skies 🌿

This library was created during Melbourne’s lockdown in 2020 to bring the community joy. We hope this joy (anand) continues for years to come! We welcome notes in the books so that others know who has read the book prior! Happy journeying 🙂
