My library sits on the front picket fence of a 100-year-old Blue Mountains weatherboard cottage called ‘The Gumnuts’. May Gibbs used to travel to Blackheath and says she was influenced by the beautiful bush surroundings when writing The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. There is a photo of the house in the 1960s showing the front garden in a bush setting. This is where the little street library sits. I hope people come to seek it out and others might stumble across its bright red waratahs as they head along Hat Hill Road for a bush walk.
I have worked in book publishing for 35 years and am passionate about books of all genres. Every week new volumes find their way to my home; sadly I can't keep building on new rooms to house them! It's so pleasing to be able to share excess books in the community in this way.
