We discovered this idea on Facebook and decided it would be perfect for our neighbourhood. Our little pocket of streets are filled with community minded people (from all demographics) who gather together annually for a street party. Multiple generations (and cousins visiting form the NT) of the Thomson family came together, with helpful neighbour Nev, to reconfigure and paint this little cupboard (picked up for $25 from Lifeline) and fashioned it into our unique little street library. Neighbours and friends have been stopping for a chat, dropping off books and enjoying exchanging them. We love the idea, and are looking forward to writing up a flyer to drop in letterboxes around the streets nearby to explain to all the neighbours what it’s all about.
