It all started as a school project. I asked my grandpa if he could lend me a hand so he started finding materials in his garage and started planning using some of my ideas from other street libraries. We messaged and called back and forth, sending photos and measurements. When the library was complete, we had to find a spot to install it. We had a tree stump that was suitable but had to have it levelled first. Finally, we installed the library on the tree stump surrounded by rocks and decorated with fairy lights. We filled it with books and spread the word to neighbours and others using flyers in their letterboxes. We can’t wait to see what books will come and go, and are looking forward to reading more books ourselves.
Our library is handmade from a vintage apple box from Croydon with a peaked recycled roof and chimney. We have a range of books across 3 shelves. We keep the library fully stocked and look forward to sharing the joy of books with our neighbourhood.
