Why ‘The Shed’?
We call this model The Shed, because the Mens Shed designed and organised to make them. Tony Varrell and his crack team of carpenters include (all over 80, mind you) Ross,George, Gordon (90), Theodore and Bruce. Thanks again lads. Your purchase supports our mission to re-connect communities through literacy across Australia. Included with your library is a numbered plaque that communicates the function of your Street Library in a bright and colourful way, pre-mounted on your library. We’ll also email you a guide to promoting your library with some tips and tricks for ensuring it is a success.
Finishing your library
The library is not yet weatherproof and must be protected with at least two coats of paint or varnish to ensure it lives a long and generous life. (Models shown may already be painted – your library is NOT painted) We recommend securely fixing your library to your property ensure it does not topple and to hinder would be thieves and advantageous mischiefs.

The Men’s Shed Story
The Shed holds an important place in Australian culture. It can be a reservoir of memories, experiences, a place to share skills and to socialise. We’ve all read reports which tell us that good health is based on many factors including self esteem, feeling productive and valuable to society, having social relationships and being active. Many retired people have had to downsize their living arrangements, often resulting in their personal space, usually the garden shed or workshop, being lost. So the idea of a Community Workshop was born. Here you can come and share a fantastic variety of tools and equipment, still pursue their interests in pastimes and hobbies, spend time with others of similar interests, learn new skills or use tools for the first time – or keep old skills honed and productive.
