Imagine our delight to hear about the Ipswich Street Library community’s Street Library Trail Day; a day for book lovers in the suburbs of Ipswich and surrounds to get out amongst the community, visit Street Libraries and swap books.
This excellent idea was brought to life by the members of the Ipswich & Surrounds Street Library online group. Street Library volunteer Britney explains that the event’s original purpose was to circulate books that were already part of the Street Library network, but it grew to include folks new to the concept.
“A lot of people joined because they saw the event flyer on Facebook,” she says. “They hadn’t known Street Libraries existed or where they were in our area before that.”
And while the weather forecast looked ominous, the area’s Street Librarians were relatively un-phased, incorporating book readings, signings and some Blind Date with a Book offerings along the carefully mapped route.
Next time Britney plans to condense the trail to help circulate books into areas that are less populated. We’re super-impressed.
Have you ever taken part in a Street Library Trail or crawl? If so, or if you plan one in the future, we’d love to hear from you.
