May 2020 saw our regional town of Armidale in lockdown for the first time due to the COVID pandemic. Mother’s Day was approaching and my husband and son built me this amazing street library for my gift. The street library houses around 50 books. It was very well received by our book loving neighbours who were largely confined to their homes at the time and we still see people accessing it regularly. In the late 1990s my husband and I owned a 2nd hand bookshop in Wagga Wagga. I am a trained high school teacher and I currently work in a school library so I see a street library as a perfect way to improve literacy and share the love of books.
Our street library is located in the heart of South Hill, surrounded by book lovers which results in a great selection of books.
