We were SO pleased to see the Jabiru Street Library at The Pool in Jabiru, NT, pop up on the Street Library Australia map recently that we decided to give Jillian at the Jabiru Public Library a call about their foray into the Street Library community.

The pool is the first of 5 locations throughout the West Arnhem LGA to be gifted with a Street Library by the Jabiru Public LIbrary and the West Arnhem council, and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them on board.

“The West Arnhem Land LGA is home to many First Nations families who are cut off from townships because of seasonal rains,” says Jillian. “Street Libraries are another way that we can promote literacy, and they symbolise Jabiru Public Library’s commitment to literacy among the communities in the West Arnhem wards.”

The Jabiru Street Library at The Pool has been mounted on a mobile stand for easy movability and is accessible to the community during the pool’s opening hours.

We’re excited to hear more from West Arnhem Land as Jillian and her crew introduce their Street Libraries to the community.  Watch out Warruwi, Minilang, Gunbalanya and Maningrida – Street Libraries – and books – are on the way!
